Pinnacle Studio 19 is one of the most popular and best selling editing software programs around. With its clean look and feel, its superior performance, and its ease of use it is no wonder it outsells most brands. We have used this software as one of our primary editors for years. As it has gone through its several progressions we have seen great growth in the product. This software will allow you to create videos which you will be proud of.
All software has an initial learning curve that must be dealt with. PS 19 does its’ best to mitigate the curve with a familiar simple interface. If you hated Watch Folders you will want to give Pinnacle Studio 19 a hug. The biggest change to the interface is the addition of Project bins to the media window and navigation fly out bar. Project bins allow the user to import just the files they want for a specific project into a collection. The collection or Project bin can be named and saved for later use. Spend time familiarizing yourself with project bins to determine if this new feature is right for you or if you want to stick to using Watch Folders.
Pinnacle Studio 19 adds a touch of professionalism to the program with its’ new Multi-Camera Editor. The tool allows the user to import footage from up to six camera sources and two audio sources and sync them to one another. The user then selects which camera angles they want to show during the video. Everything runs smoothly with HD and 4K video clips due to the use of proxy files. While the multi-camera editor is doing its’ thing it uses files with a lower resolution. When it is done it places the original HD or 4K files into the final file. This camera angle workhorse is a welcome addition to the Pinnacle Studio program.
Have you ever spent what seemed like an eternity lowering the volume of an audio track which was under an audio/video track full of a large amount of video clips with dialogue so that you could hear the person speaking over the music? Well, those days are in the past thanks to audio ducking. Yes my friends, gone are the days of finding where the dialogue begins and ends, adding volume keyframes to those points and lowering the volume. Audio ducking automatically lowers the audio of one track allowing the audio of another track to be heard more clearly. This new feature does it all for you. So go ahead and get low baby, get low.
Were you looking to jump into the program and get your edit on? You can do that! Studio 19 basic has 6 timeline tracks, Plus has 24 timeline tracks and Ultimate has unlimited timeline tracks for editing. The more tracks you have the more flexibility you have when editing. With a click of the Add Track button or a right click on the Track information section users have the option to add additional tracks when necessary. This feature makes it easy to create composites and multi-layer effects. The Plus and Ultimate versions have a”Solo” button when accessing the editor which allows users to see multiple tracks and effect simultaneously.
When you’re looking to say something with typed text Pinnacle Studio 19 has features that allow you to set up your own titles from scratch or use one of many templates to create motion titling, title designs, DVD menus, or montages. Even when using presets every aspect of your title or DVD menu can be adjusted and changed in many different ways. This allows for an almost unlimited amount of possibilities as far as text usage is concerned. I have utilized almost every effect, menu, and title and I am impressed with the quality and ease of customization, so much so that I have hugged my computer on several occasions.
Editing isn’t only about creating composites or layering clips. You have to be able to jump from scene to scene and remove those unwanted scenes from clips. Pinnacle Studio 19 gives users several options to efficiently edit with tools that are often left out of consumer level programs. PS 19 has the ability to view two media sources using the dual preview mode. When in this mode two preview windows display media (one from the timeline and one from the media library). In the preview window the trim editor can be used to set source clip in/out points, then the trimmed clip can be sent to the timeline for perfect scene transitions.
Add-ons & Effects
While you’re editing you may want to add a touch of flare to a scene or a clip. The additional animations, transitions, and effects found in Studio Ultimate along with the NewBlueFX plugins make the addition of flare possible. The NewBlueFX plug-ins help you create amazing effects which will WOW your audience. If you had PS 17 Ultimate on your PC when you download PS 19 then Red Giant Filmmaker’s Toolkit and Motion Graphics Toolkit will transfer over to the program. The professional tools in the Red Giant Toolkits enhance the overall look and feel of your scenes and add great looking effects to your projects.
While we’re on this media thing, I have to mention the Organize tab. PS 19 makes it easy to find media right within the software. The program uses watchfolders to locate media making it accessible directly from the Organize tab and navigation bar. But wait…there’s more! PS 19 allows users to organize, tag, and rate media to make it even easier to find. The organize tab can also be used to adjust, enhance and correct media. When changes are made from the Organize tab those changes are saved in the program. As we mentioned earlier, Project bins add more flexibility to the Organize tab as well.
If you have a Webcam, flash drive, disc, or a device with an HDD and you don’t want to use Watch Folders or Project bins you have an alternative. When it comes to importing media Pinnacle is as flexible as Mr. Fantastic. The ability to import clips and photos is still as simple as ever and you can even add metadata or tags while you’re at it. The Import tab has several options for scanning media and importing media from cameras, camcorders, webcams, capture devices and more. Getting it into the program for creating your next masterpiece is a snap. Once it is there Pinnacle Studio 19 can save it to the Watch Folders for future use. PS 19 can also import projects from the Pinnacle Studio iPad app and create stop motion animation videos.
In the world of video the opposite of Import is Export. They are the Yin and Yang of editing and one is just as important as the other. With all of the options for exporting media it is obvious that the people at Corel understood this. The program has options to export movies as Flash, QuickTime, AVCHD, AVCHD2, Mpeg (1, 2, & 4), XAVC S, and other file formats all the way up to 4K Ultra HD resolution. It also allows for export directly to the cloud, web sites such as Facebook®, YouTube®, and Vimeo®, multiple disc types, and devices such as PS3, Nintendo Wii, and Xbox. Some presets have a “Custom” option which allows users to click the “Advanced” button and select adjustable customized resolutions, bitrates, fps, and more. This makes it simple to create exactly what you want for your project.
